Description

Framed in an X-ray style transparency, the left atrium sits posterior to the right-sided chambers, receiving the superior and inferior pulmonary veins from each lung as they converge into short venous trunks before entering the atrial wall. The pulmonary venules coalesce peripherally, then course medially through the hila and posterior mediastinum, while the pulmonary arteries lie more anterior and superior at the lung roots before dividing.
