Description
Positioned on the left aspect of the male heart, the coronary venous network is highlighted in blue against a white myocardium, tracing the course of the great cardiac vein within the anterior interventricular sulcus before it curves laterally into the left atrioventricular (coronary) sulcus toward the coronary sinus. Running along the obtuse margin, the left marginal vein and adjacent venules drain the lateral wall of the left ventricle, while posterior cardiac venous channels converge toward the atrioventricular groove on the diaphragmatic surface. Superiorly, the ascending aorta and pulmonary trunk are visible as orienting landmarks, clarifying how epicardial vessels relate to the base of the heart and the atria. Scale and sulcal relationships read cleanly. Coronary veins matter most when you need a dependable map for venous access and for avoiding venous injury during left-sided cardiac procedures. Electrophysiology teams use the coronary sinus and its tributaries to place left ventricular leads for cardiac resynchronization therapy, and a left-sided view helps you anticipate the takeoff angles of lateral branches that are often targeted for pacing.
