Description
Centered on the female breast, the venous network courses through the glandular lobules and subcutaneous tissues, converging toward the nipple and areola as a superficial plexus. Radially oriented mammary veins pass posteriorly toward the deep fascia overlying pectoralis major, with tributaries running medially toward the parasternal region and laterally toward the axilla. Supporting connective tissue septa (suspensory ligaments) partition the lobules and provide a scaffold along which small veins travel. Pectoralis major and adjacent chest wall musculature sit posterior to the gland, defining the retromammary space. Understanding mammary venous anatomy matters when correlating surface findings with deeper drainage pathways.
