Description
Anterior orbital anatomy frames the ciliary venous outflow as it courses within the uveal tract, collecting blood from the ciliary body and iris and passing posteriorly toward the vortex (vorticose) veins. Within the bony orbit, the venous channel lies deep to the eyelids and anterior to the optic nerve, with the sclera forming its external boundary and the choroid lying immediately internal. Medially, the lacrimal sac fossa and nasal cavity margins define the orbital wall, while laterally the zygomatic bone outlines the orbital rim. Red arterial counterparts track nearby but remain secondary to the blue ciliary vein emphasis. Clear depiction of ciliary venous drainage matters when teaching aqueous humor dynamics and secondary angle-closure mechanisms, since congestion of the ciliary body can accompany uveitis and raise intraocular pressure. This view also supports procedural planning around the limbus, where anterior segment surgeons place incisions for cataract extraction or glaucoma filtering procedures and must respect episcleral and anterior ciliary vessels to limit bleeding and postoperative inflammation.
