The superior sagittal sinus runs in the midline toward the confluence of sinuses, where it meets the paired transverse sinuses that sweep laterally along the occipital bone and continue as sigmoid sinuses toward the jugular foramina. Along the petro-occipital fissure, the inferior petrosal sinus courses anteromedially from the sigmoid-jugular junction toward the cavernous sinus on each side, lying inferior to the superior petrosal sinus at the petrous ridge and adjacent to the clivus and dorsum sellae. The foramen magnum anchors the inferior midline, with the sphenoid wings and temporal petrous parts defining the anterior and lateral margins.
