Description

Positioned in posterior perspective, the L2 vertebra is rendered with the paired laminae sweeping medially to meet at the spinous process, forming the posterior roof of the vertebral canal. Laterally, the pedicles lead into the transverse processes, while the superior and inferior articular processes project from the vertebral arch with smooth facet surfaces highlighted in pale blue. The vertebral body sits anterior to the vertebral foramen and appears as the primary weight-bearing mass, partly obscured by the posterior elements. Bony texture is kept realistic, with cortical margins and cancellous character implied on cut and nonarticular surfaces. Posterior L2 anatomy matters because this is the corridor surgeons and proceduralists work through when approaching the lumbar spine from behind, whether for decompression, posterior instrumentation, or facet-directed interventions. The relationship between the lamina, spinous process, and zygapophysial (facet) joints frames common pain generators and targets, including facet arthropathy at L1 to L2 or L2 to L3 and medial branch nerve blocks performed along the junction of the transverse process and superior articular process.
