Description
Seen in lateral profile, the upper thoracic spine is rendered with vertebral bodies stacked anteriorly and overlapping spinous processes projecting posteriorly along the normal thoracic kyphosis. The T3 vertebra sits inferior to T2 and superior to T4, with its intervertebral discs forming clear cartilaginous intervals at the endplates. Thoracic-specific morphology is evident, including the posteriorly directed spinous process and the costal facets on the vertebral body and transverse process for rib articulation, while the vertebral canal appears relatively circular at this level and the superior articular facets orient to guide motion.
