Oriented in lateral profile, the thoracodorsal artery is traced as a distal continuation of the subscapular artery from the third part of the axillary artery, descending along the posterior axillary wall toward the deep surface of latissimus dorsi. Posterior to the humerus and inferior to the glenohumeral joint, the vessel courses with the thoracodorsal vein and the thoracodorsal nerve, then arborizes into muscular branches (arterioles) that spread across the lateral thoracic wall and posterior axillary fold.
