Description
Centered in the right upper quadrant, the gallbladder appears as a pear-shaped radiographic silhouette tucked against the visceral (inferior) surface of the liver, typically near the junction of the right and left hepatic lobes. As the animation progresses, the fundus projects most anteriorly and inferiorly toward the right costal margin, while the neck angles posterosuperiorly to continue as the cystic duct. Branching ducts come into view in sequence, with the right and left hepatic ducts joining to form the common hepatic duct, then meeting the cystic duct to create the common bile duct descending toward the second part of the duodenum. Labels and highlights track the biliary tree as a connected network rather than isolated segments. Radiographic anatomy matters here because gallbladder and ductal disease is often first approached with imaging, and orientation mistakes can lead to missed obstruction. Gallstones may not be radiopaque on plain film, but secondary signs such as gas in the biliary tree after sphincterotomy, a porcelain gallbladder rim calcification, or a ductal stent are interpreted against this expected position and ductal course.
