Description
Radiographic sequences track the gallbladder in the right upper quadrant, with the fundus projecting most anteriorly and inferiorly beneath the inferior border of the liver, then tapering through the body to the neck at the porta hepatis. Contrast-like opacification (radiographic density change) follows bile outflow from the neck into the spiraling cystic duct, then into the common hepatic duct and on to the common bile duct as the biliary tree branches proximally into right and left hepatic ducts. As the animation progresses, the ductal pathway is traced frame by frame, clarifying how the gallbladder sits lateral to the duodenum and anterior to the transverse colon while the extrahepatic ducts course more medially toward the pancreatic head. Orientation is clear. Cholelithiasis and cystic duct obstruction are easiest to teach when you can watch the outflow pathway rather than infer it from a single still. Delayed or interrupted passage from gallbladder to cystic duct maps cleanly onto acute calculous cholecystitis and helps explain why a stone at the cystic duct or infundibulum can also narrow the common hepatic duct (Mirizzi syndrome), a scenario that matters during ERCP interpretation and operative planning.
