Description
Superiorly, the uterine fundus forms the rounded dome of the uterus above the level of the tubal ostia, continuous inferiorly with the uterine body and laterally with the uterine cornua where the uterine tubes attach. A vascular arcade courses within the myometrium and approaches the serosal surface, with branches consistent with the uterine artery ascending along the lateral uterine wall and anastomosing with the ovarian artery near the fundus. The perimetrium caps the contour, while the endometrial cavity lies deep to the muscular wall and does not dominate this external view. Relationships are organized around the midline, with paired vessels and cornual regions mirrored left to right. Fundal anatomy matters because it is the surgical and obstetric landmark for orientation and hemostasis. During cesarean delivery and postpartum hemorrhage management, you track how the uterine arteries ascend and how collateral flow from the ovarian arteries can sustain bleeding even after distal ligation.
