Description
Rendered in an x-ray style through the male hip girdle, the pelvic venous plexuses are shown clustered around the sacrum and pelvic viscera, with paired internal iliac veins collecting multiple tributaries along the lateral pelvic walls. Anterior to the sacrum, presacral venous channels communicate with parietal veins that track the ilium and pelvic brim, while visceral plexuses surround the urinary bladder and prostate in the midline. Superiorly, pelvic outflow converges toward the common iliac veins, positioned medial to the iliac bones and continuous with the inferior vena cava above. Fine-caliber venules and small vessels are emphasized in blue against semi-transparent bony landmarks. This arrangement matters because pelvic veins lack robust valves and form dense interconnections, so pressure changes and obstruction redistribute flow in clinically predictable ways. Prostatic and vesical venous plexuses provide a route for hematogenous spread, classically implicated in prostate carcinoma metastasis to the vertebral venous system (Batson plexus) and the axial skeleton.
