Description

Running from the frontal belly of the occipitofrontalis across the temporal fossa, the lateral head dissection layers facial musculature over the calvaria, with the temporalis fanning superior to the zygomatic arch and the masseter occupying the lateral ramus of the mandible. Around the orbit and oral fissure, orbicularis oculi and orbicularis oris form concentric sphincters, while the zygomaticus major and minor course inferomedially from the zygomatic bone toward the modiolus. Posteriorly, the auricle and external acoustic meatus sit lateral to the mastoid region, and the sternocleidomastoid descends obliquely from mastoid process to the manubrium and medial clavicle.
