Description
Inferior orientation of the heart isolates the right ventricle (ventriculus dexter) as it wraps anteriorly and to the right of the left ventricle (ventriculus sinister), with the interventricular septum forming the medial boundary where the ventricular curvature tightens. The diaphragmatic surface is emphasized, so the posterior-inferior contour of the right ventricular free wall is readable relative to the more posterior and left-sided left ventricle. No great vessels are included, keeping attention on chamber geometry and septal relationship. This inferior view matters when you need to teach or plan around the diaphragmatic (inferior) cardiac surface, the area that rests on the central tendon of the diaphragm and sits adjacent to the liver on the right. It is also the surface assessed when discussing right ventricular infarction in the setting of an inferior myocardial infarction, where ischemia may extend from the inferior wall into the right ventricle and alter hemodynamics. Chamber-only depiction helps separate ventricular morphology from the visual bias introduced by the right coronary artery, coronary sinus, or venae cavae.
