Overlaid on the external facial surface, the major muscles of facial expression and mastication are rendered in situ across the scalp, midface, and anterior neck of an adult Black woman. Superficially, the frontalis and orbicularis oculi encircle the orbital margins, while zygomaticus major and minor run inferomedially from the zygomatic bone toward the upper lip, blending with orbicularis oris at the oral commissure. Lateral to the mandible, the masseter lies superficial to the ramus, with temporalis fanning superiorly from the temporal fossa, and inferiorly the sternocleidomastoid descends obliquely from the mastoid process to the sternum and clavicle, bordering the anterior triangle where the carotid sheath structures course deep. Color coding separates skeletal muscle from the maxilla, mandible, and nasal framework, and highlights adjacent arteries and veins as they traverse the cheek and neck. For teaching and clinical correlation, the combined surface and deep anatomy format helps anchor muscle actions to palpable landmarks and nearby neurovascular pathways. This is the terrain of facial nerve injury and repair: zygomatic and buccal branches travel superficially across the masseter toward orbicularis oculi and orbicularis oris, so parotid surgery, facelift planes, and facial lacerations demand an exact understanding of what lies just deep to the skin.
