Description

Bisecting the head and upper torso, the right half retains the external facial surface while the left half exposes the layered skeletal musculature of the face, orbit, jaw, and anterolateral neck. Superficial facial muscles such as orbicularis oculi and orbicularis oris sit immediately deep to the dermis, while the zygomaticus major and minor run obliquely from the zygomatic bone inferomedially toward the modiolus at the lateral oral commissure. Deeper planes logically include buccinator along the cheek, masseter lateral to the mandibular ramus, and temporalis superior to the zygomatic arch, with the sternocleidomastoid descending inferolaterally from the mastoid process toward the sternum and clavicle; color-coded arteries and veins track alongside yellow peripheral nerves across the face and into the neck.
